The Beloit College men's soccer team secured its first win of 2019 in spectacular fashion with a 4-1 victory over Maranatha Baptist in the Buccaneers' home opener.
Andrew Marchesi got the scoring started in the 20th minute.
Deji Agunbiade sent a corner near the top of the box where a Sabercat defender attempted to clear. Marchesi was in perfect position to hammer home the failed clear to give Beloit a 1-0 lead.
Marchesi doubled up just over a minute later with a header that found the back of the net to put the Bucs up 2-0.
Less than six minutes before the intermission, MBU was granted a corner. A Sabercat sent a ball into the box and the subsequent offensive opportunity was blown dead for a hand ball in the box leading to a MBU penalty kick. Marantha Baptist capitalized on the penalty to cut the margin to 2-1 heading into the break.
Conor Waldron bolstered the Buc offense that peppered the MBU keeper with shots in the second half. He notched his first goal off an assist by
Richard Thomas in the 52nd minute. His second of the game came just 13 minutes later. A goal kick by MBU was headed back into Beloit's offensive zone by
Casey Wagner from near midfield. A bit of miscommunication from the Sabercats saw the ball bounce and Waldron went after the loose ball with just the keeper to beat. He settled the ball, beat the keeper to the left and easily finished the shot into the open net to give Beloit the 4-1 advantage.
The Bucs will head back on the road for a game at Carroll University in Waukesha Saturday at 7 p.m.
