The Beloit College women's soccer team was edged by the Eagles of Edgewood College 2-1 in the Bucs' home opener Thursday afternoon.
Edgewood tallied the majority of the offense in the first half with nine shots and three corner kics in the half. The Beloit defense was up to the task turning away every Eagle offensive opportunity as keeper
Audrey Ketterer made some fantastic saves in the period.
Just under 11 minutes into the second half, Edgewood found some space behind the defense and found the back of the net to go up 1-0 in the 56th minute. The score held until the 86th minute. A pass that split the defense had an Eagle forward one-on-one with keeper. This time the offensive player won out tallying Edgewood's second goal.
The Buccaneers didn't fold. Syndey Hukin showed what she could do needing just 25 seconds after the restart to beat the Eagle keeper on Beloit's offensive end to cut the lead in half.
Beloit pressed for the equalizer in the final 4:23 of the game but they were unable to capitalize on the late surge.
The Bucs will have two days off before returning to the pitch to host Carroll University Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
