Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bucs Perfect from the Free Throw Line in Win over Rams

A perfect 11-11 night from the free throw line for the Beloit College men's basketball team led to a 68-62 win over Cornell College on the road Friday evening.

The Rams scored the first seven points of the contest and led by as much as nine in the first half but the Buccaneers swung the momentum with a seven-point run of their own to make it 23-21 with 6:25 on the clock.

The teams traded baskets the rest of the way heading into the intermission at a 31-31 stalemate.

Tristan Shoup set the stage in the second half with a three-pointer to open the scoring in the period. The Bucs held the lead for all but 12 seconds in the second half amassing an advantage of 13 with under five minutes to play. A 7-0 Rams' run narrowed the lead to three, 62-59 with just over a minute on the clock. Mason Jones tallied a steal and registered the fastbreak layup to give Beloit a little cushion. Two free throws from Darin Empereur with 12 seconds all but sealed the game.

Another Cornell three with six seconds to go made it interesting but Michael Polakoski knocked down both from the charity stripe with just four seconds left to put the finishing touches on the game.

Polakoski was stellar for the Bucs recording 19 points on 8-14 from the field. Empereur posted 18 points and eight rebounds while Jones joined his teammates in double figures with 11. Andrew Walters led all players with 16 rebounds, his fifth consecutive game with double figure boards.

Up Next: The Bucs will head to Monmouth College to face the Scots Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
