The Beloit College women's basketball team took Lake Forest College down to the wire but fell 74-64 on the road Wednesday evening.
Trailing 33-27 at intermission, the Buccaneers used a 3-4 performance from three-point range to outscore LFC 17-13 in the third quarter to pull to within two, 46-44.
Kelly Loudon gave the Bucs the lead early in the fourth quarter with an old fashioned three-point play after grabbing an offensive board, hitting a layup and the subsequent free throw to make it 47-46 just 20 seconds into the quarter.
T'aira Boyance wiped away a pair of Forester free throws with a layup. A short time later, Boyance negated a LFC layin with an and-one layup to give the Bucs a 52-50 advantage with just under eight minutes remaining.
The Foresters came roaring back with back-to-back-to-back three-pointers to reclaim the lead, 59-52 with five minutes to go but the Bucs didn't fold.
The teams traded baskets until Beloit opened a run of their own. Loudon nailed a three to make it five-point game and then struck on another long ball to cut the lead to three, 62-59 with 2:25 on the clock. The Bucs tried to use the free throw line to their advantage but the Foresters made good on a majority of their opportunities late in the game to seal the game.
Loudon and
Christy Melton each tallied double-doubles in the game with Loudon posting 19 points and 12 rebounds and Melton registering ten points and 16 boards. Point guard
Lauren Glaser dished out seven assists in the game
Dani Strejc and Boyance joined their teammates in double figures scoring with 14 and 11 respectively.
