Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bucs Unable to Overcome First Quarter Deficit

A slow start offensively for the Beloit College women's basketball team led to a 67-49 loss to Illinois College Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers shot just 25-percent in the first 10 minutes while the Lady Blues were over 40-percent efficient from the floor as Illinois College jumped out to a 22-10 lead after the first. Beloit picked it up in the second quarter hitting 50-percent from the floor. Both teams knocked down 4-6 from long range as Beloit was even with IC 20-20 in the quarter to head into the break facing a 42-30 deficit.

The Bucs pulled to within 11, courtesy of back-to-back triples from Kelly Loudon, early in the third but were unable to cut the lead into single digits. Offensive efficiency dipped to 30-percent in the third quarter as the Bucs were outscored 17-11 in the period to put the game out of reach.

Beloit held even with IC again in the fourth quarter leading to the final.

Rebounds and second chance points proved costly for the Bucs as Illinois College took advantage of their height to out-board Beloit 50-22 in the game. Nineteen offensive rebounds for the Lady Blues turned into 19 second chance points while Beloit posted just two.

Loudon registered 17 points bolstered by 3-5 from beyond the arc adding five rebounds and three steals. Dani Strejc tallied 10 points and tied for game-high honors with four assists.

Up Next: The Bucs will head to Grinnell Wednesday before hosting Lake Forest College Saturday at 3 p.m.
