The Beloit College women's basketball team fell to Lake Forest College 69-64 following a late fourth quarter run by the Foresters.
Lake Forest took an eight-point lead in the first, 14-6 with just over three minutes left in the period but the Buccaneers battled to take the lead after the first period of play. Following a Beloit timeout, the Bucs rattled off eight straight to knot the game 14-14.
T'Aira Boyance capped the run with great activity on the defensive end. On two trips down the floor, Boyance jumped a passing lane for the steal and beat the closest Forest to the basket for the fastbreak layin. A pair of free throws for LFC were negated by a
Lauren Glaser three-pointer that gave Beloit a 17-16 lead heading into the second quarter.Â
The second period was a back-and-forth affair but once again Glaser came up big in the final seconds of the quarter. The Bucs had to go the length of the floor after a LFC turnover with eight seconds left. Glaser took the inbound and dribbled passed a few defenders laying it up and in as the buzzer sounded to send the teams into the lockerrooms with a tie score, 29-29.Â
Each team scored 20 in the third to head into the final period of play with the scoreboard reading 49-49.Â
Beloit scored the first seven points of the fourth bolstered by a three-pointer and a jumper from
Dani Strejc to take a 56-49 lead. The Foresters chipped away at the lead cutting it down to two before a pair of Glaser free throws and another Strejc jumper pushed the gap back out to six with 6:16 remaining. LFC continued to whittle away at the advantage until a pair of free throws gave the Foresters a 62-61 lead with under four to play. LFC hit a couple of big shots late in the game while the Bucs struggled to find good looks. LFC sealed the game at the free throw line in the final seconds.Â
Kelly Loudon posted 20 points on 8-10 from the field in the first three quarters but was held out of the scoring column by the Foresters defense in the fourth quarter. Her 20 points and nine rebounds led all players Saturday. Loudon tied Boyance for game-high honors with four steals. Boyance was a perfect 4-4 from the floor adding four assists to her four takeaways. Glaser dropped in 12 points bolstered by a 7-10 performance from teh charity stripe. Strejc joined her teammates in double figures with 11 points in the game.Â
