The Beloit College baseball team registered a pair of dominating performances to sweep Crown College in a twinbill featuring two seven-inning contests Friday. The Buccaneers blasted 20 hits in a 17-0 rout in game one and the offense continued to roll in the nightcap plating 10 runs on 12 hits.
The Bucs scored multiple runs in five of seven innings in the opener. The high scoring affair allowed Beloit to get more than 25 players into the game. Offensively,
Nick Schmidt,
Bronson Balholm,
James Wicker,
Garrison Ferone,
Terrence Cribbs,
Austin De La Cruz and
Drew Freitag all tallied multiple hits each in the game. Wicker,
Mitch Campbell and
Matthew Starr knocked doubles while Cribbs connected for a triple and Schmidt blasted a grand slam.
Connor McCloskey went the distance striking out three while walking two in the complete game, two-hit shutout.
The Bucs didn't let up in game two scoring in five innings including three multi-hit frames. Balholm led Beloit in the batter's box going 3-4 at the plate with a run scored and a RBI. Cribbs was a perfect 2-2 with a double and a homerun adding two runs scored and three RBI in the contest.
Justin Kopech scattered four hits while fanning six and walking just one for the complete game win.
The Bucs' three senior hurlers including Kopech, McCloskey and
Danny Belling have combined to throw 22 consecutive shutout innings in three consecutive games.
Beloit, now 7-1, will wrap up play in the RussMatt Invitational Saturday morning against Penn State Abington. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m. ET on the main field of the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Florida.
