The Beloit College women's soccer team dropped a close non-conference match to UW-Platteville on a rainy day in Beloit Wednesday.
Despite fears the pitch wouldn't hold up with all of the rain that has drenched Beloit in the last few days, the game went on as scheduled and Mother Nature gave the teams a reprieve from the cascade of downpours for the duration of the contest.
The Pioneers stole an early goal with a pass in behind the Buc defense that found a UW-Platteville attacker and eventually the back of the net in the sixth minute.
That score held through halftime until the 50th minute when the Pioneers struck again. This time the score came off of a free kick from the left side of the field that somehow found its way through a maze of players and into the lower right corner of the goal.
Makenna Downing cut the deficit in half blasting a shot across the box from the left side that found space inside the right post in the 73rd minute. She nearly tallied a second on a shot from the right side that just skimmed off the post and out of play.
Audrey Ketterer and
Maya Betzler split time in goal for Beloit combining for five saves in the contest.
