The Buccaneer women's basketball team was edged 70-60 by North Central University (MN) on their home court in Minneapolis Friday night.
Beloit held the lead after the first quarter as
Hannah Welte knocked down a jumper off an assist from
Elizabeth Kalk to make it 10-9. In the second, NCU outscored the Bucs 18-11 to reclaim the lead 27-21 heading into the intermission.
Both teams shot well to open the second half but the Bucs were on fire. Beloit hit 10-14, a field goal percentage over 71-percent in the quarter. They added two from downtown and went 3-4 from the free throw line to narrow the gap to three, 49-46, heading into the final quarter.
Kalk hit a jumper to open the fourth and pull Beloit to within one but the Rams held the lead over the next few minutes. Back-to-back buckets from
T'Aira Boyance in under 30 seconds swung the favor back into Beloit's hands 55-54 with 6:18 to go. The lead quickly changed as NCU hit a shot at the six-minute mark and the Rams held the advantage the rest of the way.
The Bucs were more efficient from the field in the game shooting 41.4% while holding the Rams to just over 36%. North Central made up ground with an advantage in points of turnovers, 22-14.
Addyson Ciochon led Beloit with 15 points on 7-12 from the floor. Kalk and Boyance joined Ciochon in double figures with 11 points each. Kalk added a team-high eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
