The Beloit College men's basketball team was edged by Northland College 66-62 in the consolation game of a tournament hosted by St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin Thursday evening.
The Buccaneers came roaring back from a 15-point deficit with less than 15 minutes to play to make it an exciting game late in the contest.
Brian Rusch opened an 8-0 Beloit spurt with a jumper with just over 13 minutes to go.
Scotty Olsen knocked down a three-pointer followed by another Rusch laying.
Jabari Scuefield capped the run with an old fashioned three-point play to pull the Bucs to within two, 50-48, with 8:20 remaining.
The teams went back-and-forth until Beloit claimed the lead, 55-54, courtesy of a
Michael Myles layin with 4:12 on the clock. Beloit and Northland traded buckets over the next nearly four minutes of action until three free throws for NC extended the gap to four, 63-59, with 23 seconds to go.
Mylan Walters wasted no time getting the ball down the floor and draining a three to knock the deficit back to one. Forced to foul in the final 20 seconds, Northland sealed the game at the charity stripe hitting a pair at the 15-second mark and then another with seven seconds to go for the 66-62 final.
Northland shot 54-percent from the floor in the first half before cooling down a bit in the second to 42-percent. The Bucs shot just 31-percent in the first 20 minutes before turning it on for 45-percent in the second half.
Myles led the Bucs with 16 points on 8-14 from the floor. Rusch dropped in 12 and added a team-high four assists.
Andrew Walters was active on glass hauling in eight rebounds.
