The Beloit College men's basketball team won the second half but it wasn't enough to erase the first half deficit as the Buccaneers fell to Lake Forest College 76-68 in Flood Arena Wednesday evening.
The Foresters used a 26-8 advantage on points in the paint to open up a 36-27 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. LFC shot 57-percent from the floor in the period compared to Beloit's 46-percent.
The Bucs turned it around in the second half sparked by 11 points off the bench from
Caden Anderson. Anderson was a perfect 4-4 from the field in the second half including three from downtown.
Azeez Ganiyu tallied the first four points of the second half to narrow the gap to 36-31 but the Foresters quickly pushed the lead into double figures taking a 43-33 advantage with 16:47 left.
Beloit responded with an eight-point spurt bolstered by a pair of buckets from
Michael Myles to pull to within four, the closest the would come in the second half, 43-39, with under 15 to go. One Anderson triple pulled the Bucs back to within five but Lake Forest always had the answer on the offensive end of the floor.
The Bucs increased their offensive efficiency in the second half hitting 53-percent of their shots from the floor. Beloit was 8-20 from long range (40%) but just 6-10 from the free throw line. LFC shot a blistering 63-percent in the second half to go 31-52 (60%) from the floor in the game. The Foresters were also 11-13 from the charity stripe but hit just 3-12 from distance.
Mylan Walters led Beloit with 16 points on 7-15 from the floor adding a game-high four steals. Three Bucs joined him in double figures including Ganiyu with 13, Anderson with 11 and
Brian Rusch with 10. Ganiyu hauled in a team-high seven boards while
Andrew Walters garnered team assist honors with four.
