The Beloit College women's lacrosse team returned to action Saturday afternoon after more than a year hiatus due to the pandemic. The Buccaneers dropped their season opener at Cornell 19-1.
The Rams jumped out to a quick lead in the first half and held the advantage the rest of the way.
Senior
Melinda Balades and sophomore
Olivia Farbarik each registered highlight games defensively for the Bucs. Their six caused turnovers a piece is tied for third in program history. Balades added a game-high nine groundballs, just one shy of entering the record book. The senior led the Bucs' with six of the team's 13 draw controls and also scored the squad's lone goal. Drawing a penalty with just over seven minutes remaining, Balades took the free position shot for Beloit. On the whistle, she sprinted forward a few steps in typical free position fashion and fired a shot that bested the Rams' keeper to put the Bucs on the board.
In her first game as the Bucs' goalie, sophomore
Sofia Jeddeloh posted 14 saves in the full game in net for Beloit.
The Bucs will host Cornell College for their home opener Wednesday, April 7 at 5 p.m. in Strong Stadium.
