The Beloit College track and field program competed in the Monmouth College Fighting Scots Invitational Sunday in Monmouth, Illinois. No team scores were kept in the meet.
Eva Laun-Smith led the Buccaneers with a pair of first place finishes. Her leap of 11.23 meters (36-10.25) in the triple jump was tops at the meet and currently ranks among the top 25 in Division III this season. Teammate
Sydney Crockett took silver in the event. Laun-Smith was also tops in the 100-meter hurdles with a clocking of 15.60.
The 400 saw a pair of second-place finishes for the Bucs.
Montana McMahon grabbed silver with a time of 1:08.24 while
Mauricio Penn crossed the line in 52.50 to lead an eight-Buc contingent in the event. Beloit's women's 4x100 also registered a runner-up finish as the foursome of
Darcel Royster, McMahon,
Alayna Furch and
Hannah Welte combined for a time of 51.79. On the men's side,
Austin Dutter teamed with
Alexandre Atou,
Genesis Solomon and
Brandon Joly for a fourth-place time of 46.80.
Crockett added a bronze to her day with a leap of 4.31 meters (14-1.75) in the long jump. Solomon finished fourth in the event for the Buc men with a recorded distance of 5.64 meters (18-6).
Carson McDonald led a Beloit trio that went 3-4-5 in the javelin with a toss of 33.10 meters (108-7). Also registering fourth-place finishes were
Fiona Cismesia (1500),
Ajani Joseph (100) and
Jordyn McDonald (200).
