LA CROSSE, Wis. – The opening day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships featured a grueling slate of multis, high-stakes preliminary rounds, and several national titles decided in the field. Among the elite field of competitors were two Buccaneers, who saw action on the national stage in the throws and hurdles.
Beloit College was represented in the Men's Discus Throw Final by junior Joshua Martinez Marte (Beloit, Wis.). Competing in the first flight, Martinez Marte uncorked a toss of 46.86 meters (153' 9") on his third and final attempt of the afternoon. While the distance placed him 21st in a remarkably deep field, his appearance at the national meet underscores his status as one of the premier throwers in the region.
Senior Nate Otis (Shoreview, Minn.) was also scheduled to represent the Buccaneers in the first round of the Men's 400m Hurdles. However, Otis did not start (DNS) in the second heat, bringing a quiet end to a decorated season for the Beloit veteran.
