Game Recap: Softball |

Bucs Increase Win Streak to Six with Sweep at Ripon

The Buccaneer softball team increased its win streak to six games with a sweep of Ripon on the road Wednesday afternoon. In a tale of two very different games, Beloit took game one 2-1 before the offense opened up for a 13-4, five-inning, victory.

Game One: Defense. The opener of the twinbill was a defensive battle. Maddy Pfortmiller and the Buc defense allowed just five hits and a single run in the contest. Other than the four-bagger in the fourth, Beloit's defense did not allow a Red Hawk passed second base in the game. For Ripon, the defense couldn't keep the Bucs off the bases but they were stifling with runners on stranding 10 Beloit runners on base in the game.

Maddie Moser tagged a double to centerfield to open the top of the second. She advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch for the first tally of the game. Ripon tied it up in the fourth before Beloit rallied with two outs in the top of the fifth. Isabel Johnson drew a walk to keep the inning going. Moser and Emily Stapay notched back-to-back singles to bring Johnson around to score to make it 2-1.

With the win in the circle, Pfortmiller improves to 6-1 on the season.

Game Two: Offense. The nightcap saw 23 hits and 17 runs from the two teams. The Buc offense scored 13 runs on 13 hits while the defense flipped the script on Ripon from game one and stranded nine Red Hawk runners on the base paths.

Beloit scored in all five innings including two in each of the first two frames and back-to-back four-run innings in the fourth and fifth to take the decisive eight-run advantage.

Cora Aubert, Beloit's pitcher in game two, helped herself at the plate leading the Buc offense with a 3-4 performance in the batter's box including three runs scored and an RBI. Moser and Mackenzie Shawback each went 2-4 at the dish combining for four runs scored and five runs batted in.

Aubert allowed just one earned run to pick up the win and move to 3-2 on the season.
