Bucs Bounce Back with Sweep of Knox

The Buccaneer softball team bounced back from a gloomy Saturday to register a pair of wins against Knox College Sunday. Beloit took the opener 4-2 and the nightcap 7-1 at the Strong Stadium Complex.

The Bucs got on the board right off the bat, so to speak, in game one. Following a three-up, three-down top of the first, Beloit capitalized on a couple of Prairie Fire miscues coupled with some timely hits. With one out, Briana Arteaga reached on the error. Two batters later, with two outs, Emily Stapay opened her day in the box with a no-doubt blast that easily cleared the right field fence for the 2-0 lead. Maddie Moser kept the inning going with a hard shot to left field for a base knock that ended up scooting by the defender and rolling all the way to the fence as Moser cruised into third. Another Knox error allowed Moser to score for the early 3-0 lead.

Knox responded with a pair of runs off of four hits in the top of the second to pull to within one.

Beloit came back with a single run in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Stapay singled to left center and came around to score on Moser's double to left field.

The Buc defense allowed just two hits the rest of the way to secure the win.

Stapay and Moser combined to go 4-6 in the batter's box adding three rus scored and three runs batted in to lead the Beloit bats.

Maddy Pfortmiller picked up her tenth win of the season in the circle tossing just 66 pitches in the complete game win.

The Bucs kept everything rolling in game two, once again jumping out to an early lead, this time with a two out rally. Kaitynn Taft got things going with a two-out single to center. Stapay followed with an oppo ball that landed inside the left field line for a double that allowed Taft to score. Moser tagged a ball that hit the fence in center field flying around the base paths for a RBI triple for an early 2-0 Beloit advantage.

Knox cut the lead in half with a single run in the top of the third but the Bucs responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame. Consecutive singles from Isabel Johnson and Arteaga followed by a sacrifice bunt had runners on second and third. Stapay continued her phenomenal day at the plate with another double plating two runs for a 4-1 lead.

Stapay doubled once again in the bottom of the fifth to bring in Beloit's fifth run of the game before Johnson capped the scoring with a two-RBI double of her own in the bottom of the sixth.

Stapay was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a run scored and four runs batted in while Johnson and Arteaga each tallied two hits.

Cora Aubert tossed a gem in the circle for the Bucs scattering five hits across the complete game while striking out four and not allowing a single earned run.
