The Buccaneer men's soccer team was edged by Illinois Insititute of Technology 2-1 at the Strong Complex Sunday afternoon.
On a very hot sunny afternoon in Beloit, the Bucs fell behind following a Scarlet Hawk goal in the 19th minute after Illinois Tech drew a foul for a free kick within striking distance.
Beloit's defense kept Illinois Tech off the board the rest of the half but IIT struck a second time just under seven minutes into the second half on a cross into the box that was headed in.
Despite the two-goal deficit, the Bucs rallied, picking up the pace offensively. The momentum swung heftifly in Beloit's favor in the 60th minute. Drawing a foul a few yards outside the box,
Aiden Everett stepped up to take the free kick. Sending a beautiful ball into the box,
Derek Veenstra elevated above the competition and got just enough with his head to squeeze the ball inside the far right post to cut the deficit in half.
Beloit continued to surge, sending a number of players toward the ball to press forward. The Bucs had a few opportunities near goal but couldn't find the back of the net as time expired.
Clark Burch-Woodard and
Brock Bidwell split time in goal for the Bucs combining for three saves in the game.
