Patrick Casola and
Aidan Lerch registered their first goals of the season to lead Beloit College to a 2-1 win over Concordia University Wisconsin at the Strong Stadium Complex in Beloit Sunday afternoon.
The Buccaneers struck first with
Ajani Joseph finding Casola at the top of the box. Finding a soft spot in between defenders, Casola blasted a left-footed one-timer into the bottom right corner of the net to give Beloit a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.
Later in the first half, Lerch doubled the Bucs up with a fantastic goal from the left side. On a ball played to the far left side of the box, the Falcon keeper came out but couldn't clear the pass. Lerch took advantage, gaining possession, settling near the goal line and tagging a bender that just curved inside the far post before the CUW defenders could cover their empty net. Beloit took the 2-0 lead into the half.
The Falcons pressed in the second half taking the advantage in time of possession. That pressure led to a Falcon goal in the 59th minute that cut the lead in half. CUW put together a few more scoring opportunities but each was thwarted by Beloit's stifling defense and a phenomenal goal keeping performance from
Brock Bidwell.
The Bucs will head to Milwaukee for their first road game of the season Wednesday, September 8 against Wisconsin Lutheran College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
