Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bucs Battle to Draw at Edgewood

The Beloit College women's soccer team battled to a double overtime draw in their second consecutive outing. After 110 minutes of action, the Bucs and Eagles tied 2-2 in Madison Wednesday night.

The Bucs took the lead twice in the match but Edgewood found a way to tally the equalizer on each occasion.

With less than a minute to go before halftime, Gracie Gasmann got the Buccaneers on the board with her first collegiate goal. Pushing forward, a pair of Bucs connected on passes up the middle. The second got by an Eagle defender and into the left side of the box. Gasmann settled and used her left to chip the ball out of reach, over the Edgewood keeper for the first score of the contest.

Following a converted penalty kick for Edgewood, Beloit reclaimed the lead in the 57th minute. Natalie Ortiz registered the takeaway and played Makenna Downing along the edge of the left side of the box. Downing settled the ball taking a touch toward the end line. Striking with her left from the very edge of the box at a tough angle, the ball ricocheted off the bottom of the cross bar and fell inside the goal line. Play resumed as it looked like Downing would have her second shot of the night thwarted by the post or crossbar until the referee whistled for a good goal a few seconds later to give Beloit the 2-1 advantage.

The Eagles answered late in the game tallying the equalizer in the 83rd minute. Playing the ball deep into the right corner, a well-placed cross to the far post had Buc goalie Maya Betzler diving in an attempt to punch the ball clear amidst two Edgewood forwards but the ball was just out of reach.

Beloit had a few more opportunities in the final minutes of regulation but each was thwarted by the Eagle keeper sending the game into overtime.

Both teams had a number of scoring opportunities in each of the overtime periods including a few free kicks for Edgewood and a couple of corners for Beloit but each time the defenses stepped up and kept the opponents off the board.
