BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit's men's soccer team inched closer to the fourth and final spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament field Saturday afternoon, defeating Monmouth College 2-1 on Senior Day, with many seniors playing a key role in the victory. The win gives Beloit nine conference points, which is just one shy of Knox.
Monmouth got the scoring started in the fifth minute when Reid Sondgeroth scored his sixth goal of the year on an assist from Nicolas Esparon. Ten minutes later, senior
Conor Waldron netted his first goal of the season.
The score remained tied late into the second half when senior
Andrew Marchesi scored on a header for his first goal of the year, thanks to an assist from fellow senior
Derek Veenstra.
Beloit will try to leapfrog Knox in the standings on Tuesday when they'll host Lawrence University. That game will begin at 3 p.m. at Strong Stadium Soccer Complex in Beloit, Wis.
