MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Beloit's women's basketball team won their second game in a row with a 71-54 victory at Alverno College Wednesday night. The Buccaneers featured a swarming defense all game, forcing 31 Alverno turnovers, which Beloit turned into 32 points.
Alverno (0-3) scored the first basket of the night on the game's opening possession, but that lead lasted just 16 seconds until
Hannah Welte connected on a 3-pointer on Beloit's ensuing possession. That was the beginning of a 9-0 run and the Buccaneers (2-2) would never look back, leading 26-14 after one quarter of play. Alverno cut that lead to nine in the second period, but Beloit wasn't fazed, taking a 15-point lead into halftime.
Beloit would never trail by less than 10 the rest of the night, and would take their largest lead of 21 points mid-way through the third quarter when Welte drove the paint for a layup. Beloit shot 43 percent (26-61) from the field on the night, while Alverno converted 34 percent (20-59) of their shots.
Welte led all players with 20 points, to go along with a game-hgih four assists, while
T'Aira Boyance finished with 16 points and five rebounds for the Buccaneers.
Addyson Ciochon added seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Alverno was led by Adrianna Sapp's 14 points and six boards, while Camiria Sardin scored 10 points off the bench, while making all five of her shots.
Beloit will try to keep things rolling on Friday when they'll host Eureka College. That game will begin at 5 p.m. at Flood Arena in Beloit, Wis.
