BELOIT, Wis. - On a day that saw the temperatures plummet to the 30s with winds of upwards of 30 miles per hour at times, the Beloit College football team lost to Lake Forest College by a score of 36-3. The two offenses couldn't gain their footing for most of the game, combining for 217 yards of total offense and 11 punts.
Arguably the most efficient drive of the day came on the game's opening possession when Lake Forest took the ball 75 yards in six plays, capped off by a 22-yard touchdown run by Armani Brown. After recovering their own ensuing kickoff, Lake Forest found the end zone again seven plays later when Jake Kostoryz caught a five-yard touchdown from quarterback Tre Stewart. Beloit would get on the board later in the first quarter when they capitalized off a blocked punt by Ben Smith, converting a 45-yard field goal off the foot of
Rafael Cervantes Jr. The Foresters added another touchdown in the second quarter, scoring on a five-yard run by Damon Bonds. They would add a 22-yard field goal and a safety late in the half to take a 26-3 lead into intermission.
The only touchdown of the second half came on a two-yard touchdown run by Tre Stewart mid-way through the third quarter, which capped a 13-play, 49-yard drive. The only other points in the second half came on a 29-yard field goal by Lake Forest kicker Beckham Sonnabend.
Beloit quarterback
Jacob Shafer completed 5-of-15 passes on the day, with
Jose Guillen leading the Buccaneers with three receptions for 17 yards, and a long of 14. Defensively, Beloit was led by
Christopher Croft Jr.'s 12 tackles, which included two for a loss and one of the Buccaneers' three sacks on the day.
Lens Bernadel and
Aiden Diehl did the honors for the team's other two sacks. Ethan Flores added nine tackles, including 1.5 for a loss.
Stewart completed 12-of-19 passes for 79 yards, with Mario Florio recording a game-high four receptions for 28 yards. Kostoryz added three catches for 29 yards and the only receiving touchdown of the contest. Brown led all players with 65 yards on eight carries (8.1 ypc), while Bonds finished with 45 yards on the ground. Lake Forest's defense matched Beloit with three sacks of their own, while also intercepting one pass.
Beloit will close out their 2022 season next weekend when they'll travel to Illinois College. That game will begin at Noon in Jacksonville, Ill.
