BELOIT, Wis. - Beloit's women's basketball team opened their 2022-23 campaign Tuesday night with a 91-51 loss to Millikin University, which finished the game shooting 43 percent (12-28) from 3-point range. More than half of Millikin's points (55) came from their bench.

The Big Blue (1-0) led from start to finish, as they took control of the game early by scoring the contest's first 10 points. Beloit (0-1) then scored five consecutive points on a 3-pointer from Elizabeth Kalk and a pair of free throws from Marlee Young to cut the lead in half. That would be as close as the Buccaneers would get the rest of the night however, as Millikin ended the first quarter on a 21-10 run, and would take a 50-21 lead into halftime.

Kalk led Beloit with 19 points, to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Alexis Ross added eight points and three boards, while Hannah Welte chipped in with seven points. The Buccaneers converted 29 percent (19-65) of their shots o the night, while converting 77 percent (10-13) of their free throws. Twenty-eight of their 51 points came in the paint.

Millikin's Elyce Knudsen led all players with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-7 from 3-point range. Sarah Isaf added 20 points on 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Terry Alana also scored in double digits with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting. The Big Blue shot 51 percent (33-65) from the field.

Beloit will try to rebound this weekend when they'll hit the road for a tournament hosted by North Park University. The Buccaneers will play North Park Friday at 4 p.m. in Chicago, Ill.
