Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cornell Edges Buccaneers

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Cornell College shot 48 percent (25-52) from the field Saturday afternoon, including 57 percent (13-23) in the second half, en route to a 66-60 win against Beloit's men's basketball team.

Clayton Jenny gave Beloit (4-6, 1-3 MWC) the first lead of the game on a layup in the opening minute. Cornell (3-6, 2-2 MWC) answered that with a 3-pointer by Zach Ingle to give the Rams a lead that they would never relinquish. That was the beginning of seven consecutive Cornell points, and the Rams would take their first double-digit lead when another Ingle basket put them up by 10 with seven and a half minutes remaining in the opening period. Beloit then scored the next nine points to cut the lead to one on a Caden Anderson layup. That's as close as the Buccaneers would get the rest of the night, with Cornell taking a 28-23 lead into halftime.

Beloit wouldn't get closer than four during the second half, which saw Cornell start with a 27-10 run to open a 22-point lead mid-way through the second half. Beloit proved that there is no quit in their team however, coming to life with a 25-7 run of their own to cut Cornell's lead to four on a Jenny jumper with just under one minute to play, but that's as close as they would get the rest of the night.

Jenny led Beloit with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range. Azeez Ganiyu added a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Semaj Roy added 11 points and six boards off the bench.

Ingle led Cornell with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including a trio of 3-pointers. Logan Christensen added 15 points, making all five of his shots from the field, while Jordan Magnani posted eight points, four rebounds, and a game-high six assists.

Beloit will now step out of conference play for a bit, as they'll host Martin Luther College on Friday. That game will begin at 4 p.m. at Flood Arena in Beloit, Wis.
