Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Beloit Defeats Illinois Tech In Convincing Fashion

CHICAGO, Ill. - In what was arguably their most efficient performance of this season, Beloit's women's basketball team defeated Illinois Tech 84-54 on Saturday afternoon. That gives the Buccaneers more wins (5) through just 11 games this season than the team recorded all of last season.

Beloit (5-6) controlled the game from the opening tip, leading from start to finish, shooting 50 percent (38-76) from the field, including 30 percent (3-10) from 3-point range, while also making all five of their free throws. The Buccaneers limited Illinois Tech to 30 percent (17-56) shooting, including 37 percent (7-19) from the field, while converting just 43 percent (13-30) of their free throws.

The Buccaneers outscored Illinois Tech 30-9 in the opening quarter to set the tone for the night, which saw Beloit take a 52-22 halftime lead. Beloit forced 27 turnovers on the night, which they turned into 34 points. They also outscored the Scarlet Hawks in the paint by a 68-18 margin, while racking up 20 fast break points. Beloit edged Illinois Tech in nearly every statistical category, including rebounding, which saw Beloit own a 48-34 advantage for their largest single game rebounding margin of the season.

Elizabeth Kalk continued her outstanding junior season for Beloit, as the second-leading scorer in the Midwest Conference, nearly recording a triple-double with game-highs of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. Addyson Ciochon added 16 points in just 20 minutes, while Marlee Young chipped in with 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting, to go along with five rebounds. Hannah Welte also chipped in with 11 points and a game-high five steals.

Illinois Tech (2-8) was led by Camden Joko's 15 points and four assists. Chloe Churilla added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Julia Bucci scored 10 points.

Beloit will try to use this momentum in their next contest, December 30 against Carroll (Wis.) University. That game will begin at 5 p.m. at Flood Arena in Beloit, Wis.
