BELOIT, Wis. - In a game that featured two ties and eight lead changes, Beloit fell to Carroll (WI) by a score of 64-53 in a game which the final result was in doubt until the final minutes. Carroll out-rebounded the Buccaneers 41-27, with 14 of those coming on the offensive glass, while also outscoring Beloit in the paint by a 24-18 margin.
Carroll (7-5) had the hot hand early on, taking a 7-2 lead in the opening minutes, but Beloit (5-7) answered with a 9-0 run, taking an 11-7 lead on an
Elizabeth Kalk free throw. The Buccaneers would take a six-point lead in the second quarter, before Carroll scored seven consecutive points. Beloit then answered with a
Johanna McNair 3-pointer to grab the lead right back. The Buccaneers would lead by as many as seven in the first half, and would take a 27-24 lead into halftime.
Beloit continued to hold the lead in the opening minutes of the second half, before Carroll surged ahead, thanks to a 16-3 run to give the Pioneers a 10-point advantage in the final minutes of the third quarter. They would extend that lead to 14 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, which saw them outscore Beloit 19-14 in that frame.
Elizabeth Kalk led Beloit with 12 points and five rebounds.
Hannah Welte added nine points, while McNair scored eight off the bench, converting all three of her shots from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Carroll was led by Kate Christian's 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Olivia Rangel and Brooke Foster each scored 11, while Chloe Halverson pulled down a game-high nine rebounds (four offensive).
Beloit will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll get back to conference play by hosting Illinois College. That game will begin at 5::30 p.m. at Flood Arena in Beloit, Wis.
