Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Buc Seniors Honored Saturday

Four seniors on the Beloit College men's basketball team were honored prior to the start of the Buccaneers' game against Knox Saturday. Mylan Walters, Dean Gatsis, Scotty Olsen and Andrew Walters were all recognized in front of the Beloit faithful before the Bucs were edged by the Prairie Fire 73-68.

The first half went back-and-forth before Beloit put together a nice run capped by a Mylan Walters triple for the largest lead of the period, 32-23, with just over two minutes to play before the break. Knox scored the final four points of the half to send the teams to the locker rooms with the Buccaneers leading 32-27.

Beloit extended their advantage in the first three minutes of the second half, going up by double figures after a Walters-Walters connection for a fastbreak made it 42-32. That combination was Mylan with the steal and assist to Andrew for a layup.

Partway through the half, the Prairie Fire really started to heat up and with just under 11 minutes remaining, Knox had knotted the game 49-49. Still the Bucs didn't relinquish the lead for another four minutes. KC captured their first lead of the period at the 6:50 mark on a layin. The next three minutes were exciting as the teams traded baskets until a few buckets and some controversial calls seemed to sway the momentum toward the way of the Prairie Fire.

Beloit didn't fold, with Dae'quan Davis' jumper cutting the lead to four with under 45 seconds remaining but the Bucs couldn't hit from range and Knox was able to seal the game at the charity stripe.

Andrew Walters led Beloit with a double-double posting 18 points on 7-10 from the floor and 11 rebounds while swiping three steals and dishing out five assists in the contest. Davis and Mylan Walters joined Andrew in double figures in the scoring column with 17 and 15 respectively. Azeez Ganiyu was a workhorse in the paint hauling in 16 rebounds.
