The Beloit College women's basketball team fell to Knox College 73-52 in Flood Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneer defense proved to be a highlight jumping passing lanes and swiping the Prairie Fire guards for 18 steals in the contest.
T'Aira Boyance registered six of those with
Elizabeth Kalk tallying five and
Hannah Welte posting four in the game. The Bucs capitalized on those miscues outscoring the Prairie Fire 24-11 in points off turnovers.
A big first quarter for Knox tipped the scales in the visitor's favor as KC outscored Beloit 20-9 in the first 10 minutes of action. Kalk never left the floor in the first scoring seven points in that timeframe.
The Bucs were in striking distance each of the next three quarters but couldn't make up the additional deficit from the first quarter. Knox's height was a problem for Beloit inside with the Prairie Fire grabbing a 12-point advantage in points in the paint in the contest.
For the game, Kalk led the Bucs with 17 points bolstered by 5-6 from the free throw line.
Hadja Bayo hauled in a game high nine boards while Boyance,
Addyson Ciochon and
Cora Linos each tallied a pair of blocks in the game.
The Bucs have a quick turnaround and will be back in Flood Arena to host Illinois College Sunday. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m.
