The Beloit College women's basketball was narrowly edged by Illinois College 70-64 in an exciting game on the road Monday night.
The contest was tight throughout with the Lady Blues taking the advantage after the first quarter 18-15. The Buccaneers narrowed the already small gap taking the second quarter 17-16 to head into the locker room down two, 34-32.
On the other side of the break, Beloit knotted the game with a 16-14 third quarter sway to set up a thrilling fourth.
The Lady Blues opened up the fourth on an 8-0 spurt to take a 56-48 lead less than two minutes into the period. Beloit responded with a 6-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to two with six minutes left to play.
The teams traded buckets before Illinois College put a small run together to take a seven-point lead with 1:37 on the clock. From that point
Addyson Ciochon dropped in a pair of free throws. On IC's next possession, Ciochon swiped a steal and made good on a layup off a pass from
Elizabeth Kalk to make it 65-62 with just over a minute to go.
A missed jumper for the Lady Blues was hauled in by Kalk who went coast-to-coast weaving her way through the IC defense for a layup to make it a one-point game with 37 seconds remaining. The Lady Blues immediately called timeout to advance the ball which worked to their advantage leading to a quick layup.
The Bucs' chance at a three-pointer fell short and they were forced to foul IC on the rebound. The Lady Blues dropped in both free throws for a cushion with 22 seconds left. Another free throw with 15 seconds remaining provided the final score.
Ciochon's 16 points paced the Bucs. She was joined in double figures by Kalk with 14 and
T'Aira Boyance with 11 on 5-6 from the field. Kalk added eight assists and nine rebounds for a solid all-around outing.
