The Beloit College baseball team dropped a pair of seven inning games to a solid Simpson College squad in their second day of action in the RussMatt Invitational Sunday evening in Auburndale, Florida. The Buccaneers fell in the opener 3-1 before dropping the nightcap 3-0.
Simpson's starting pitcher in game one was one of the most dominant Beloit has come across in recent years striking out 18 of the 24 Buccaneer batters he faced in the game.
Matt O'Leary and
Brett Kiger had the lone hits for Beloit with O'Leary tagging a double in the game. Those two hits came back-to-back in the fourth with Kiger's single bringing O'Leary around to score.
Thomas Kosakowski was tapped for the start and suffered the loss scattering four hits over four innings of work.
Kaiya Nishino came in for relief allowing two hits in two innings on the mound.
Game two was another defensive battle with just seven hits combined between the two teams.
Garrison Ferone and
Deven Irwin tallied the pair of singles for the Bucs in the game.
Aiden Phipps pitched five innings of shutout ball fanning seven while walking just one and allowing three hits.
Eamon Burke suffered the loss on the mound in two innings of work.
