In temperatures that neared the league's low threshold with windchill, the Beloit College baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game series at Grinnell College 10-3 Sunday afternoon.
The Buccaneers got on the board first with
Garrison Ferone plating the first run of the game on a double to right field in the top of the first.
The Pioneers came back with a two run homer in the bottom of the third before Beloit tallied the equalizer as
Brett Kiger scored on a
Jimmy Yanow ground ball in the top of the fifth.
Kiger capitalized again on a sacrifice fly for a run batted in the top of the seventh that reclaimed the lead for the Bucs 3-2 but Grinnell would tally the next eight runs unanswered for the win.
Beloit registered six hits in the contest, all by different Buc batters.
AJ Parnell took the loss on the mound in two innings of work.
Aiden Phipps went six innings on the mount fanning seven while allowing a single earned run in the game.
