Bucs Drop Two to Rockford

The Beloit College softball team dropped a twinbill to Rockford, 11-5 and 11-6, on a frigid night in Loves Park, Illinois Tuesday.

Despite real feel temperatures hovering around 30 degrees due to gusty winds, the Buccaneers took an early lead in both contests.

In the first game, Riley Conn got the Bucs on the board with an RBI double to left field that brought in Briana Arteaga. In the next frame, Isabel Johnson tripled to right to plate Kaitlynn Taft before a Sidda Meyers sacrifice fly ball allowed Johnson to tag from third to make it 3-0 Beloit.

Rockford's offense got going a bit later in the game and the Regents capitalized on a number of defensive miscues to score eight unanswered runs.

Beloit's final two runs of the game came on a Johnson sacrifice fly and a RBI groundout from Conn.

Arteaga led the Bucs with a 3-for-4 outing at the plate while Taft was a perfect 2-for-2.

Maddy Pfortmiller suffered the loss on the mound despite giving up just three eared runs in the game.

A pair of doubles in the top of the first inning of game two got Beloit going early. Emily Stapay started the hit fest with a RBI ground rule double. Taft tagged a double of her own to bring in one more. Meyers showcased her speed with a RBI single to the pitcher to make it 3-0 after the first half inning.

Much like the first game, Rockford was able to score eight unanswered to take an 8-3 lead after two innings of play.

The Bucs came back with three more in the fourth to narrow the gap to 8-6. Kaitlyn Ramdath tripled to left center to plate one run. She came in to score on a Sydney Harbison single through the right side. Stephannie Lopez followed suit two batters later to plate Harbison.

The Regents defense held as their offense added a couple more runs in the fifth and a single in the sixth for the final.

Taft and Lopez were both 3-for-4 in the batter's box to pace Beloit's 12 hits in the game. The Bucs left 10 stranded in the contest.

Cora Aubert suffered the loss on the mound giving up a single earned run in two innings of work.
