The Buccaneer baseball team scored in each of the first six innings en route to an 11-7 win over Knox College at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium Friday afternoon.
The Beloit offense was cruising right out of the gate plating three runs in the bottom of the first.
Drew Freitag singled in the first run of the contest before
Matt Crandall hit a sacrifice fly that brought in one more.
Evan Zenger followed with a RBI double down the left field line that gave Beloit a 3-0 lead.
The Bucs' best inning at the plate was the fifth. Leading 6-3 heading into the bottom of the frame,
AJ Fitzpatrick provided a highlight with a RBI single to center. He then put the pressure on the Prairie Fire defense taking off for second with a runner on third. The throw bounced by the shortstop allowing Fitzpatrick to reach second safely and
Kruz Vargas to score.
Garrison Ferone and
Matt O'Leary kept the scoring going with a double and single respectively that pushed the Beloit advantage to 10-3.
Tyler Hoover made it 11-3 in the bottom of the next inning with a single to right center to wrap up the scoring for the Bucs.
The Prairie Fire gathered a little momentum in the eighth bringing in four runs but the Beloit defense held on for the win.
Ferone, Freitag, and Zenger all registered three hits as Beloit blasted 15 in the game.
Aiden Phipps picked up the win on the mound scattering five hits across six innings of work while fanning five. He is now 2-0 on the season.
