Evan Zenger continued to surge offensively using a 3-for-4 day at the plate to lead Beloit to a 9-6 win over Ripon College in the series finale on the road Saturday afternoon.
Zenger's three base knocks led to a pair of RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Buccaneer offense. Fittingly, Zenger opened the scoring in the game with a RBI single up the middle that plated
Matt O'Leary in the top of the first. Later in the frame,
Drew Freitag singled to left field to bring Zenger around to score and give Beloit a 2-0 lead.
The Redhawks plated a single run in the bottom of the first but the Bucs came back with three more in the second. Doubles from
Garrison Ferone and
Brett Kiger sandwiched another Zenger single to record the three RBIs in the frame to expand the gap to 5-1.
The Bucs and Redhawks traded runs over the next four innings before Ripon added a pair in the bottom of the seventh to pull to within two, 7-5.
Beloit gave itself a cushion in the top of the ninth with Freitag laying down a bunt on the squeeze play that had O'Leary scoring. A fielder's choice led to another Buc run to push the advantage to 9-5. Ripon pushed a single run across in the bottom of the frame for the final.
Freitag also had a great game in the batter's box going 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Jacob Sligar picked up the win in 5.2 innings of work to improve to 4-1 on the season.
