Ferone Ties League Record for Doubles in a Game as Bucs Win

Garrison Ferone tied the Midwest Conference record for doubles in a game and broke two Beloit College program records in Wednesday's 17-9 win over league-leader Lawrence.

Ferone blasted four doubles Wednesday which sets the program record. That feat has been accomplished just one other time in the history of the league (AJ Johnson, Carroll, 2015). His five hits Wednesday also ties the Buccaneer record for hits in a game. Now with 16 two-baggers this season, Ferone is tied for third in the program record book for doubles in a single season. The program record holder is Jake Tresemer with 18 (2012).

Wednesday's series finale was an offensive showcase with 38 hits between the two teams. The Bucs scored in six of their eight at bats with multiple runs in each of those innings.

The Bucs' big inning on the day came in the third where five runs crossed the plate. Brett Kiger opened the scoring in the frame with a no-doubter line drive three-run blast that easily cleared the left field wall. Miles Souza brought in another run later in the inning with a RBI single up the middle and a fielder's choice allowed the Bucs' fifth run to score.

Ferone led the offense going 5-6 at the plate with the four doubles adding two RBI and a run scored. Four other Beloit hitters registered multiple hits in the game including 3-5 performances from both Kiger and Matt Crandall

Tommy Murray got the start and went 2.1 innings. Ryan Deany picked up the win in one inning of relief allowing just a single hit. Eamon Burke tallied the most innings for the Bucs' staff allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four in 3.2 innings of work. Kaiya Nishino and Aiden Phipps closed out the game with the final two innings.
