Big Second Half Propels Beloit Past Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. - Beloit's women's basketball team outscored Lawrence 39-24 after halftime Wednesday night, en route to a 69-53 win at Lawrence University. The Buccaneers forced 25 turnovers on the night, which they turned into 27 points, while also outscoring the Vikings in the paint by a 40-16 margin. Beloit also scored 13 fast break points, in large part because of their 19 steals.

Beloit (7-12, 3-8 MWC) shot 46 percent (27-59) in the game, including 60 percent (6-10) from 3-point range. They only got stronger as the game wore on, converting 46 percent of their third quarter shots and 71 percent (10-14) of their shots in the fourth and final period. The game featured four ties and six lead changes, before Beloit pulled away to coast to victory.

T'Aira Boyance led the Buccaneers with 15 points and five assists, while also adding nine steals, which is just one shy of Beloit's single game record. Elizabeth Kalk added six steals of her own, to go along with 12 points and three rebounds. Hannah Welte added 14 points, while Megan Thompson contributed a near double-double of 12 points (on 5-of-5 shooting) and nine rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.

The Vikings were held to just 33 percent (16-49) shooting, including 21 percent (6-28) after halftime. They also converted 31 percent (4-13) of their 3-pointers. Lawrence (6-13, 2-8 MWC) was led by Lydia Lueck's 20 points. Emma Carlson added 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Beloit will now try to build on this victory, as they'll host Finlandia Unviersity on Saturday. That game will begin at 5 p.m. at Flood Arena in Beloit, Wis.
