BELOIT, Wis. - On Sunday afternoon Beloit Athletics wrapped up Homecoming 2023 by officially inducting Derek Carrier '12, Angela Molnar '03, Scott Schleich '93 and Shelly Wiegel '94 into the Beloit Athletic Hall of Honor. All 4 of these individuals exemplified what it means to be a Beloit Buccaneer during their time on campus.
Derek Carrier is the only modern-day Beloit College football player to play in the National Football League. Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Oakland Raiders in 2012, Carrier also played for the Eagles, 49ers, Redskins, and Rams, but before he appeared on a national stage, the native of nearby Edgerton, Wis. rose to glory on the gridiron, basketball court, and track at Beloit College. Carrier was a three-time All-Conference selection as a wide receiver, earning 1
st Team recognition in his final two seasons. As a junior in 2010 he was a Third Team All-Region selection. In the 11 years since he played, he is still the school's career leader in receptions (189), receiving yards (3,111) and receiving touchdowns (29). Carrier holds Beloit's top two single-season marks for receptions (75 in 2011 and 64 in 2010), receiving yards (1,250 in 2011 and 1,044 in 2010), and receiving touchdowns (12 in both 2011 and 2010). He is one of just two players in program history to record more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season, and is the only one to accomplish that feat more than once. In 2011 he won the Richard Shannahan Most Valuable Player Award for the football team. Carrier was a Health and Society major at Beloit, while also serving as a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He spent two seasons on the Men's basketball team, earning the John Erickson Academic Award in 2010 and the Men's Basketball Achievement Award. He was a member of the track & field team during his final two years at Beloit, competing in the 55 meters, long jump, and triple jump.

Angela Molnar is the school-record holder for career goals (46) and points (108), 20 years after graduating from Beloit. A three-time First Team All-Conference selection (1999-01), Molnar also ranks fourth in program history for assists with 16. Her 15 goals and 10 assists as a freshman rank second in program history in both categories. Molnar graduated with the top two single-season point outputs in program history. Molnar was voted as the team's Offensive Player of the Year three times, while also receiving the team's Most Improved Player Award and Beloit's Janssen Award in 2002. She also shined on the softball field and the track.

Scott Schleich was a two-sport athlete for the Buccaneers, but broke records as a member of the Track & Field team. Schleich excelled as a high jumper, becoming a four-time conference champion in the high jump at the Midwest Conference Indoor Championships as a freshman and sophomore, and the MWC Outdoor Championships during his freshman and senior campaigns. Schleich saved his best for last, breaking the school and conference record in the event at the 1993 MWC Outdoor Championships, which was one of the final meets of his storied career. His mark of 7-00 (7 feet) still stands at the time of his induction. Schleich also broke the school record in the indoor high jump with a leap of 6-07.625, which still stands as a school record at the time of his induction. On the basketball court, Schleich earned Second Team All-Conference honors during his sophomore and senior seasons, while playing for legendary and fellow Hall of Honor member Bill Knapton. Schleich appeared in 73 career games on the hardwood. A 6-foot-7 forward, Schleich was the team's second-leading scorer as a senior, en route to helping the Bucs win the 1993 MWC Championship and securing a berth in that year's NCAA Division-III Tournament. That same season, Schleich and the Bucs defeated the Russian National Team.

Shelly Wiegel is one of the most well-rounded student-athletes in Beloit College athletics history, excelling at two sports and in the classroom. A six-time Academic All-Conference performer, she earned that distinction three times for both basketball and cross country. Wiegel was a three-time First Team All-Conference performer for Beloit's cross-country team, while twice serving as Team Captain. Wiegel was voted Team Most Valuable Performer in 1991 and 1992, while helping the Buccaneers win the 1992 Wisconsin Private College Championships. As impressive as Wiegel was on the course, she was equally extraordinary on the hardwood where she was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection. Voted Team Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year as a senior, Wiegel was a two-time winner of the Buccaneers' Hustle Award. She was a recipient of the Beloit Athletic Department's Janssen and Peterson Award as a junior and senior, respectively. 29 years after her graduation, her totals of 259 points and 203 steals rank 5
th and 4
th respectively.
Congratulations to the 2023 Inductees of the Beloit Athletic Hall of Honor!
