Buccaneers Big 3rd Quarter Not Enough Against Rams

BELOIT, Wis. - Yesterday afternoon the Beloit College football team faced the Cornell Rams in a road Midwest Conference matchup. The Buccaneers (1-3, 0-3) were still searching for their first conference win while (2-2, 2-1) were hoping for a second straight victory. The latter happened, with Cornell securing a 36-24 victory.

Cornell got on the board first, scoring on a 20 yard touchdown pass on their first drive of the game. A missed extra point gave CC a 6-0 lead. The Buccaneers answered with a 16 yard drive of their own. Rafael Cervantes Jr. (Dallas, TX) converted a 23 yard field goal to cut the lead in half, 6-3. On the Rams next drive, they used two BC pass interference penalties to craft a ten play, 75 yard drive to take a 10 point, 13-3 lead. Cornell scored two more times in the second quarter, a 32 yard field goal and a 1 yard touchdown run. The Bucs went into the locker room at the half down 23-3.

BC received the 2nd half kick and immediately started orchestrating their comeback. They cut the lead to 23-10 after a 6 play 53 yard drive that ended with a 17 yard touchdown pass from Jacob Shafer (Dixon, IL) to Tommy Dixson (Glenn Heights, TX).  The Rams immediately answered with a TD of their own (30-10). The Bucs' next drive also resulted in a touchdown, their only back-to-back touchdown drives of the day. This time, Shafer found Chris Moore for a 28 yard touchdown catch. Gavin Thorpe intercepted the Rams to give the Bucs a 1st down in their territory. Unfortunately, they weren't able to capitalize and turned the ball over on downs. The Bucs only score of the 4th quater was a 29 yard TD catch by Dixon from Shafer. BCs comeback ultimately fell short.

The Buccaneers are on the road again next weekend when they face Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. on Saturday. Kick off at the Banta Bowl is set for 1 p.m.
