Aurora, Ill. - This afternoon the Beloit College Women's basketball team played a road game against the Aurora Spartans. The Spartans (4-0) used strong second and third quarters to overtake the Buccaneers (0-4). The Buccaneers led by one, 13-12 after the first ten minutes. Over the next 20, AU outscored BC 40-22. Despite Beloit making a run in the final quarter, Aurora held on for a nine point, 66-57 win.
Neither team shot the ball particularly well, with the Bucs shooting just under 38% from the field and the Spartans shooting 33%. Aurora edged Beloit at the charity stripe, making 84% while the Bucs shot only 67%.
The Spartans scored 29 points off the the Bucs 28 turnovers and 27 points off the bench.
Hannah Welte (Clinton, Wis.) led the way with 16 points and 4 rebounds.
Elizabeth Kalk (Clinton, Wis.) tallied her second straight double-double, with 11 points and 10 boards. She added five assists and three steals as well.
Hadja Bayo (Round Rock, Texas) had 13 points, 2 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Bucs with 12 points.
The Bucs are on the road again on Tuesday, November 21st in Chicago, Ill. when they face off against North Park. Tip-off is set for 6 pm.
