FOND DU LAC, Wis.- The Beloit College Women's basketball team headed to Fond du Lac for a Sunday evening match up with the Sabres of Marian University. The Sabres (1-4) looked to double their win total on their home court this evening. The Buccaneers (1-5) spoiled their plans, and took a 76-62 victory to mark their first win of the season.
For the second time this season,
Hannah Welte (Clinton, Wis.) led the Bucs in scoring, recording her 2nd 20-point game of the year. Her 21 points were a game-high. She added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 23 steals.
Elizabeth Kalk (Clinton, Wis.) was one rebound shy of another double-double, with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) continued to be strong off the bench for Beloit, scoring 12 points in just 16 minutes. Johnson also secured 4 rebounds.
The Bucs fell behind quickly, and Marian took a 9-0 lead in the first 2+ minutes. With 51 seconds left in the 1st quarter, Kalk hit a jumper in the paint to give BC a 17-16 advantage, they would not relinquish the lead over the next 30 minutes.
The Buccaneers' kick off Midwest Conference (MWC) play on Tuesday at 7:30 pm. in Appleton, Wis. against Lawrence University.
