APPLETON, Wis. - The Beloit College Women's Basketball team kicked off Midwest Conference (MWC) play last night when they traveled to Appleton for a match up with the Vikings of Lawrence University. Looking to extend their win streak to two, the Buccaneers (1-6, 0-1) rallied late but were unable to defeat the Vikings (5-1, 1-0).
Sophomore Forward
Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) had a career night, scoring 18 points in just 18 minutes of action. Her 18 points, included 3-4 from three and a perfect 3 for 3 from the free throw line. She led the Bucs in scoring, while adding 5 rebounds and one blocks.
Elizabeth Kalk (Clinton, Wis.) also scored double-digits, posting 15 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds.
Despite the loss, the Buccaneers outscored the Vikings 38-30 in the paint. They also recorded more bench points, 28-23. Lawrence shot slightly better from the field, 44.8% to 42.4%. The Vikings shot significantly better from downtown, 40.0% compared to just 27.8% for the Bucs.
The Buccaneers continue MWC play on the road on Saturday. They will head to Monmouth, Ill. for a match up with the Fighting Scots of Monmouth College. Tip off will be around 3 pm, following the conclusion of the men's game.
