APPLETON, Wis.- Earlier this evening the Beloit College Men's Basketball team kicked off Midwest Conference (MWC) play on the road against the Vikings of Lawrence University. The Buccaneers (4-2, 1-0) used a dominate 1st half to defeat the Vikings (0-6, 0-1) by a final score of 62-53.
The Buccaneers used a ten point lead in the first half to hang on despite being outscored 33-32 over the final 20 minutes of play. Beloit used the three ball to even out the playing field. LU outscored the Bucs in the paint (22-26) and off of turnovers (6-15). The Bucs shot 44.4% from deep compared to just 18.5% from the Vikings.
Leading the way for Beloit for the first time this season was
Brian Rusch (Edgerton, Wis.) off the bench. Rusch score 13 on 3-4 from deep, secured 4 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and recorded one steal.
Semaj Roy (Chicago, Ill.) and
Clayton Jenny (Edgerton, Wis.) also tallied double-digit scoring numbers with 11 each. Roy added 3 boards and 1 assist while Jenny led the team with 5 assists.
The Buccaneers continue MWC play on the road on Saturday against the Monmouth College Fighting Scots. Tip off in Monmouth, Ill. is set for 1 pm.
