BELOIT, Wis. -
Marlee Young (Beloit, Wis.) and the Beloit College Women's basketball team got back into the win column this afternoon with a victory over the Alverno College Inferno. The Buccaneers shot 41.5% (27-65) from the field and 71.4% (10-14) from the free throw line. The Inferno shot just 38.2% (21-55) and 41.2% (7-17).
The Buccaneers (3-9, 1-3 MWC) led by only one after the first ten minutes of play. Over the next ten however, they outscored Alverno (2-8, 0-2 NACC) 28-14 to take a 41-26 lead into the locker room. The Bucs asserted their dominance in the paint early, outscoring the Inferno 50-24 down low.
Alverno had three players hit double figures in scoring while the Bucs had four. Young led all scorers with 17. She also pulled down 4 rebounds and recorded two steals.
Hannah Welte (Clinton, Wis.) recorded her first double-double of the season, scoring 16 and grabbing 11 boards.
Johanna McNair (Fishers, Ind.) set a new career-high with 11 points. She secured 4 rebounds and three steals. Off the bench,
Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) added ten points of her own.
The Buccaneers look forward to 2024. They head to Jacksonville, Ill. on Wednesday January 3rd to take on Illinois College for a MWC midweek match up. Tip off is for 7:30pm
