JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Beloit College Women's basketball team kicked off the 2024 portion of their schedule with a road match up with the Lady Blues of Illinois College this evening. The Buccaneers' led after the first quarter, but couldn't hold on over the final three. Beloit dropped the MWC contest by the score of 50-57.
The Buccaneers (3-10, 1-4 MWC) and Lady Blues (8-6, 3-2 MWC) played such an evenly matched, close game that it wasn't until the first points of the 2nd half that either team had a larger lead than five points.
Beloit was led by
Elizabeth Kalk (Clinton, Wis.),
Hailey Johnson (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Hannah Welte (Clinton, Wis.). Kalk posted 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. She was one rebound shy of her third double-double of the season. Off the bench, Johnson tallied 12 points in just ten minutes of action. She recorded two steals. Rounding out the double-figure scoring for the Buccaneers was Welte, her 11 points came on 40% shooting.
The Buccaneers return to Flood Arena on Saturday, January 6th to host another MWC opponent, the Monmouth College Fighting Scots. In their first contest against the Fighting Scots, the Bucs went to Monmouth and defeated them 54-42. Tip off is set for 3pm, following the men's game.
