BELOIT, Wis. - The Beloit College Men's basketball team matched their MWC win total from last season with a 70-60 win over the Red Hawks of Ripon College tonight. The Buccaneers led from start to finish, scoring 35 points in each frame. Beloit used 46.9% (23-49) FG shooting and 47.1% (8-17) 3PT shooting to stifle any chance of a Ripon comeback.
Beloit (6-2, 3-0 MWC) outscored Ripon (1-8, 0-2 MWC) in the paint ( 28-20) and in points off of turnovers (15-12) to control the pace and physicality of the game. The Red Hawks pulled within two with just over seven minutes to play in the final frame before the Bucs worked back to a 6-point advantage with just under 4 minutes left after a
Semaj Roy (Chicago, Ill.) triple.
Three different Buccaneers recorded double-figure scoring. Freshman
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) scored a team-high 12 points, grabbed three boards and dished out one assist.
Ryan Nixon (Waukesha, Wis.) followed with 11 points, three steals and two rebounds.
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.) was one rebound shy of a double-double, with 10 points, nine rebounds two assists and one block.
The Buccaneers travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa on Saturday for an afternoon match up with the Rams of Cornell College. Tip off is set for 1 pm.
