MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Beloit College Men's Basketball team surpassed their 23-24 MWC win total this afternoon with a win over the Cornell College Rams (2-8, 0-4 MWC). The Buccaneers (7-2, 4-0 MWC) won only three conference games last year and are off to their best start in over two decades.
Four different Bucs hit the double-digit scoring mark, their most in a game this season.
Dae'Quan Davis(Chicago, Ill.) led with 17 points while
Azeez Ganiyu (Beloit, Wis.)notched his fourth double-double of the season (16pts, 14reb) he also blocked three shots. The Bucs outscored the Rams in bench scoring (27-5). Contributing 26 of those 27 points were Davis and
Anthony Carter (Greenfield, Wis.) who scored in double figures (10) for the second straight game.
Semaj Roy (Chicago, Ill.), also added 16 points and 6 rebounds.
Despite only leading by one at the half, the Buccaneers dug deep to outscore the Rams by nine over the final 20 minutes and take the game 70-60. Beloit used 45% shooting from the floor to stifle any chance Cornell had of digging themselves out of the hole. The Rams shot just 39.7% but also only shot 26% from the charity strip, making only 6-23 free throws.
The Buccaneers take a week off before hosting Northland at Flood Arena on Saturday, December 16th at 3 pm.
