CHICAGO, Ill. - Beloit's track & field team had their final tuneup Saturday before next weekend's Midwest Conference Tournament, as they competed at the University of Chicago Invite. Beloit's men finished third out of seven collegiate teams, while the Buccaneer women placed sixth out of eight collegiate teams.
Beloit's men scored 65.5 team points at the meet, which was just five points shy of second place. The highlight of their day came in the 60 meters, where senior
Ajani Joseph broke a five-year-old school record by winning the event with a time of 7.10, which is 0.03 seconds better than the program's previous mark. Joseph also placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 23.05, which was just 0.32 seconds shy of the winning time.
Alexandre Atou also had a good showing, finishing second in the 400 meters with a time of 52.86, which was 0.20 seconds behind the winning time. Atou also joined
Ahmasi Martin, Nathaniel Otis, and
Brandon Joly to win the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:33.36. In the throwing events,
Emiliano Reyes finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 14.97m.
Diontia Charles added a third-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.73m.
The Buccaneer women scored 25 points on the day, which was just three points shy of the fourth-place total.
Alayna Furch recorded the team's top finish, placing third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.38.
Jordyn McDonald added a fourth-place finish in the 60 meters with a time of 7.96, which was 0.24 seconds shy of the top time.
Beloit will now prepare for the annual MWC Indoor Championships next weekend, which will begin on Friday and continue on Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill. Friday's events will begin at 1 p.m.
