Buccaneers Rally Falls Short Against Simpson

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Beloit's baseball team loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth Monday afternoon, but couldn't complete the rally, falling to Simpson College by a score of 10-5. The two teams combined for 28 hits on this windy day in Central Florida.

Beloit (2-2) got the scoring started in the opening inning when Matt O'Leary scored on a Miles Souza groundout. Connor Vogel would also score in that inning on a double to center off the bat of Brett Kiger. That lead didn't last long, as Simpson (3-6) plated five runs in the following inning, with the biggest blow coming on a two-run double. They would score again in the third on a wild pitch, before extending their lead to 8-2 on a two-run home run in the top of the seventh. Kiger connected on a two-run bomb of his own the following inning, his second long ball of the young season, before Jack Alport drove in another run with a double to left center. Simpson would get two insurance runs in the ninth, before narrowly escaping the bottom of that final frame with no damage done.

Four of Beloit's 10 hits came off the bat of Kiger, who recorded a hit in every at-bat to improve his white-hot batting average to a team-best .615, while his Slugging Perentage of 1.779 also leads the team through four games. Connor Vogel added two hits in five at-bats.

Four of Simpson's 18 hits went for extra bases, including a home run, triple, and a pair of doubles. They saw six players record a multi-hit game, including a pair of players with three base knocks.

Beloit will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll play SUNY-Canton at 1 p.m. Eastern Time at NorthEast Regional Park Field One in Davenport, Fla. You can follow along live during the game with LiveStats at SIMPSON 10 BELOIT 5 Final (beloitcollegeathletics.com).
