AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Beloit's softball team lost both of their games Monday afternoon in what was the second day of games on their spring trip to central Florida. The Buccaneers narrowly lost their first game 5-4 against Augsburg, who thwarted a late rally by the Buccaneers. They would also fall to Hamilton in their second game of the day by a score of 13-4.
In their first game, Augsburg did all their damage in the first two innings, taking a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second. That's where the score would remain until the sixth frame, which saw Beloit score four runs on four hits. They first got on the board on an RBI single up the middle off the bat of
Angela Donath.
Kaylee Witte followed that up with a two-run single to center, while their other run crossed the plate thanks to an Augsburg fielding error. The Buccaneers then loaded the bases with two out in the top of the seventh, but couldn't push any more runs across the plate.
Two-thirds of Beloit's hits came from two different players, as Witte and
Maddie Moser each finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Samantha Fredrichsohn suffered the loss, despite allowing just two earned runs on four hits and striking out three in a six-inning complete game.
Augsburg's four hits came from four different players, but included a pair of doubles. They struck out 13 Beloit batters in the game.
The second game of the day saw Beloit play from behind again, as Hamilton scored once in the second, twice in the third, and three times in the top of the fourth, before the Buccaneers broke into the scoring column when Moser scored on an error in the bottom of the fourth.
Zoe Landolt added an RBI single in that inning, but Hamilton answered with a two-run single in the fifth. Beloit's two other runs each came in the fifth, on RBI singles by
Cora Aubert and Landolt. Hamilton then scored five runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Beloit finished the contest with eight hits, with two apiece coming from Moser, Aubert, and Landolt. Hamilton recorded 15 hits, with four players recording a multi-hit game, including two players with three hits apiece.
The Buccaneers will be in action again on Tuesday when they'll face Lakeland and St. Scholastica at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time, respectively. Both of those games will be played at DiamondPlex Field 2 in Winter Haven, Fla.
