ELMHURST, Ill. - Beloit's women's lacrosse team defeated Elmhurst Tuesday night by a score of 8-4, earning their first win of the 2023 season. The Buccaneers built a 5-0 lead before coasting to victory, while also outshooting Elmhurst by a 26-25 margin.
Paige Airaudi scored the game's first goal, followed by a pair of goals by
Johanna McNair, giving Beloit a 3-0 lead entering the second quarter, which saw
Olivia Farbarik and Airaudi each score a goal.
Elmhurst mounted a comeback with two goals in the final minutes of the first half, and another in the first minute of the second half to cut Beloit's lead to two, but McNair put the game out of reach with two more goals in the third period. Farbarik added her second goal of the contest later in the third, before Elmhurst capped the scoring with a goal in the fourth.
McNair led all players with four goals while Farbarik and Airaudi each scored twice for the Buccaneers. Goal Keeper
Sofia Jeddeloh recorded 16 saves while playing all 60 minutes for Beloit. Her counterpart, Savannah Sannes saved 11 shots in her 60 minutes of work.
The Buccaneers will now try to build on that win, as they'll host UW-Stout on March 22. That game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Strong Stadium in Beloit, Wis.
